Still obsessed with Shucked

I was happy to see that Shucked, a new comedy musical with all original music, is actually doing well. Apparently, one thing that has helped so far has been low ticket prices. “$69 (and capped at $149) and mezzanine seats as low as $29” per deadline.com. Maybe this will be a trend. If a goal of Broadway is to bring in a younger audience, this could be the move. Of course, making a show profitable is a struggle, so selling cheap tickets is a risky calculated risk.

I’ve been following Shucked’s social media feeds, and it sounds like it’s a really funny show. I love a serious show, but I am capable of enjoying a comedy from time to time. On last year’s trip, &Juliet wound up being my favorite, and it’s completely silly. I was also surprised at how much I enjoyed Mrs Doubtfire. Fun fact: The Stephen Sondheim Theatre is where both &Juliet is currently playing and Mrs Doubtfire previously played.

My obsession continues. The show has posted some new studio videos. Here’s Woman of the World, sung by Shucked actress Caroline Innerbichler, who plays “Maizy”, a young farm girl who endeavors to save her town.

Checking out the merch store, I’m definitely going to need the hat.

Shucked, featuring Alex Newell and an original score by CMA-winning LGBT songwriting team Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally (who collectively have earned three Grammy Awards and 18 Grammy nominations), is playing now at the Nederlander Theatre in New York.
