Back to Broadway

In anticipation of my next Broadway adventure, I ranked the shows I’m most excited about seeing and also the ones I think will be the best. This trip was meant to include How to Dance in Ohio, but sadly it has closed. Teeth the Musical is there at the bottom of both lists because it’s a new show, probably still in development, at Playwrights Horizons off-Broadway. I’m sure it will be fun.

Most Excited to See (most excited to least)

Lempicka – Starring San Diego regular, Eden Espinosa. I saw this production at La Jolla Playhouse a while back, and we loved it. It’s visually stunning, and there are several strong songs.

Days of Wine and Roses – Starring Kelli O’Hara and Brian d’Arcy James. This limited engagement is written by Adam Guettel who wrote The Light in the Piazza.

Spamalot – Starring James Monroe Iglehart (the original Genie in Aladdin the musical) and featuring Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice and School of Rock).

Water for Elephants – Music by PigPen Theatre Co, starring Grant Gustin (The Flash!)

The Notebook – Based on the hit film (which I haven’t seen yet, no spoilers). Music by Ingrid Michaelson. Audiences love it, critics are lukewarm about it.

Teeth – Written by Michael R Jackson (A Strange Loop).

And then there are the rankings what I think will be the best.

Predicted Best Show (best to least-best-but-I’m-sure-it’s-fine)

  1. OK. I am now officially jealous.

I can’t wait to hear what you thought of these. It’s really the year of the powerhouse female vocalist!
